Parent Workshops
EdTech Associates is pleased to offer workshops to help parents learn how technology can be used to increase the academic success of students with learning disabilities, differences and challenges. With the availability of a wide range of technology tools – from common desktop software to online resources and specialized assistive technology – parents learn how to identify and use a variety of technology tools and resources to assist children in developing learning and study skills.
Introduction to Technologies for Students with Learning Disabilities and Differences
This workshop provides an overview of the technologies that can support reading, writing, study and organizational skills. Demonstrations of the common desktop software and online tools that can support students with learning disabilities are presented. Handouts include a resource list of websites on the hardware and software that are reviewed. Demo disks and sites for 30-day trials are distributed at this workshop. (3 hours)
Using Microsoft Word® XP to Support Writing and Organizational Skills
Microsoft Word® XP has many features that can support students in organizing and writing. Parents learn in this hands-on introductory workshop how to use these features to support their children in tasks that require organizing, planning and writing. A demonstration of the speech tools found in Microsoft Word® XP is also presented. A discussion is included on how parents can support their children in using this software. (3 hours)
Introduction to Inspiration® 7.6 (Grades 6-12)
Inspiration® is a visual learning tool designed to support critical thinking, comprehension and writing across the curriculum and when students need to structure research or other thought processes. This hands-on introductory workshop provides a step-by-step tutorial that introduces attendees to the features of Inspiration® that can support students in Grades 6-12 in those areas they find difficult. A discussion is included on how parents can support their children in using this software. A 30-day demo disk is distributed at this workshop. (3 hours)
Introduction to Kidspiration® 2.1 (Grades K-5)
Kidspiration® is a visual learning tool designed to support young readers and writers in combining pictures, text and spoken words to represent their ideas and show relationships. This hands-on introductory workshop provides a step-by-step tutorial that will introduce attendees to the features of Kidspiration® that can support young students in reading and writing. A discussion is included on how parents can support their children in using this software. A 30-day demo disk is distributed at this workshop. (3 hours)
Introduction to Kurzweil 3000®
Kurzweil 3000® software is designed for individuals with learning difficulties. It includes tools to support students in reading and writing with features that makes it possible for them to learn and study independently. This introductory workshop presents a basic overview of Kurzweil 3000® and the specialized features that support students in tasks they often find difficult. A 30-day demo disk is distributed at this workshop. (3 hours)
