Presentations, Seminars & Workshops
Kathleen McClaskey’s presentations are inspirational, passionate and thought-provoking – with a flavor of common sense that engages the audience in what direction schools need to take to improve outcomes for “all learners.” She makes her audience think about the importance that technology can play in removing barriers to learning and in empowering students in developing “independent 21st Century learning skills” with the use of accessible technology tools, so that they may have choices in postsecondary and in life.
Kathleen’s straight talk and personable nature, combined with her understanding of the “bigger picture” of education, literacy and technology places her in the forefront of educational thinkers, whose focus is on learning, not just the technology. Her ideas about leveraging accessible technology, creating collaboration among Curriculum, Special Education and Technology Directors to arrive at learning solutions and in devising Personal Learning Plans have inspired schools to change their approaches to technology, education and literacy.
Kathleen’s Concepts and Beliefs
- Current and future “universally designed” technologies are essential in removing barriers to learning and in improving literacy.
- Professional development in technology and research-based instructional methods is key in developing the human infrastructure schools will need to use technology as effective instructional tools to teach “all learners.”
- Student achievement can be attained by developing learning skills with the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
- Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), literacy and “independent” learning skills can be realized by the diversity of learners in a classroom when both teachers and students learn “how to choose and use the appropriate technology for the task.”
